Stitches to See Thru
I casted on the 168 stitches on a size 6 needle using Rowan Denim. I found that it was a little see thru (i got 5.2 stitches to the inch).. I want to make it tighter , when I go ona 4 needle i get 5.5 stitches to the inch.. Ilike that gauge, how do i figure out how many stitches to cast on for that needle.. Please help

I haven't seen the pattern in writing so I could be totally wrong here but I think this is how you should do it:
Divide the number of stitches (168) with the number of stiches/inch (5,2) and then multiply that with your desired number of stitches/inch (5,5) = 177,7. I would round that down and cast on 177 stiches.

This is the way I do it.
First I do a swatch with the yarn and needles I want to use. Then measure your waist. Then take the number of stitches per inch according to your swatch and multiply that by your waist measurement.
Be careful of the lace pattern along the bottom though and make sure you have enough stitches to accomadate the number of lace pattern repeats.

I'm using Rowan Denim too and I too thought the gauge was too loose with size 6 needles. I'm using size 5s because I don't have 4s, and I'm happy with the gauge I'm getting. I just winged it (is that grammatical?) and began with 156 stitches and once I got a few inches knitted I tried on the waist part of the skirt and by pure dumb luck it works for me. I'm not sure I'd recommend that method, but I didn't want to mess around with figuring out the lace pattern if I didn't use one of the pattern sizes exactly. Good luck!
I went down to a size 4..I used the Rowan Denim washed and dryed it and it looks great
